An exciting collaborative study where our lab provided modelling insights is out in Neuron. The study entitled “Cell-Specific Dendritic Integration in Cortical GABAergic Interneurons,” reveals that PV- and SST-expressing interneurons process information in fundamentally different ways. SST interneurons show supralinear integration and uniform synaptic distribution, supporting broad temporal integration and sustained activity. In contrast, PV interneurons exhibit sublinear integration and denser proximal synapses, making them better suited for tracking fast-changing signals. These findings highlight how distinct dendritic mechanisms enable specialized neuronal computations—advancing our understanding of how the brain processes information.
