Our group was awarded with the prestigious H.F.R.I. – SNF grant “Always strive for excellence – Theodoros Papazoglou”!

Dr. Yiota Poirazi’s research group at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of FORTH has been awarded a prestigious grant co-funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.). The grant is part of the 5th Call of the “Science and Society” Action “Always strive for excellence – Theodoros Papazoglou” (Project Number: 28056).

The H.F.R.I. and SNF partnership supports research proposals that were highly rated by the European Research Council (ERC) but missed out on funding due to budget constraints. The “Science and Society” action honors the memory of Dr. Theodoros Papazoglou, a pivotal figure in its establishment.

Dr. Poirazi’s DendroLeap project was awarded an eminent “A” rating in the 2023 European Research Council Advanced Grants call. As a result, it has secured €1.25 million in funding for 2.5 years. The project will explore how dendrites of biological neurons can optimize learning in both biological and artificial systems, combining computational modeling, rodent experiments, and bio-inspired machine learning techniques.
